I am a mechanical engineer and self taught painter. I am more known for my landscapes of Vancouver, however Painting Variables is where I experiment with code and algorithms (and sometimes even robots) to create geometric abstracts or other colorful paintings.

My original name for my geometric abstracts was "Machine Learning Abstracts". As it was my first stab at using ML code. I wrote my own python code to generate geometric compositions that a classifier then ranked, sorted and named. I then had fun painting these quirky ideas and calling them art!

A challenge of coding and painting and trying to be a full time artist is that it requires a lot of coding and painting! Often a these simple geometric paintings can take me 10x longer as I debug code and train algorithms... even longer if I use a robot. So the most sustainable way to share this work is through open edition fine art prints. I use the best quality Epson Inks and paper. I sign and title each print by hand.
